Don't Mess With My C:, Chrome!

Years back when we PC DIY geeks split hard disk partitions, we allocate <10GB for OS.
Things changed when one can easily get 1TB HDD without burning a hole in pocket.
Most of the time people just skipped the partitioning chores, leaving a whole big hard disk into 1 partition.
As such, they mix system & personal stuffs into a big bowl, and lost both when disaster comes.

In my case, I have 10GB as my system partition since years ago and still practise it without problem.

After switching Firefox to Firefox Portable, from my much space-limited system partition to other much spacious hard disk partition, I managed to recover much space to be utilised, although it's then being consuming by MS updates patches.

Not sooner after installing Google Chrome 4, I wondered what eats up my system partition till 0kb.
I cleared up other temp files, temporary freed up some space, but quickly I faced with the same situation.
After months I spared Google Chrome, finally I decided to switch Google Chrome to Google Chrome Portable.
To my surprise, this frees up >300MB in my poor system partition!

So I would really suggest to Go Green - go Portable, and that the new age programmers would kindly consider much in making of their ever-growing big fat applications, to be much aware of the what they might consumed.

Peacekeeper For My Browser

Peacekeeper - The Browser Benchmark

Just benchmarked my outdated portable FF3.5.5 @ Intel Dual-Core E2140 = 1216
But forgot to close all other browsing tabs.
While testing, can see the hard-feeling of my browser window appearance.
As compared to the official result, at least better than IE7/8, MS needs to catch up with this or loose its browser market share.

Will try to update my Portable FF to the latest 3.6.6, while testing Google Chrome to get a glimpse, if I'm free enough.

Also, my portable FF3.5.5 browser scores 126 and 4 bonus points out of a total of 300 points, in HTML5test.

My NTU Blog is On!

It's been 5 years since I graduated from NTU.

Apart from a tiny little certificate, which only been shown a few times when I went for interview, it left me a precious & wonderful memory, mission to contribute my real profession, and an email which I would proud of keep myself update of NTU by receiving several campus epapers.

Now, even better with the generosity by NTUCC to open it's Weblogs service to alumni, with as much as 500MB available space to spend. (email only 100MB)
Perhaps I'm amongst the 1st oversea alumni to try this Wordpress-based service out.

Now mine is activated. 1st come 1st serve. The major topic for this blog is pending but for sure it'll serve with Chinese.

Do Some Good Deed With reCAPTCHA

Ever seen image with curvy phrases with strikethrough, or perhaps just random numbers or string on internet?
We keep seeing this while submitting form or comment, or any other process which needed to be confirmed
that it's done by intentional, thoughtful human's mind, not robot's arbitrarily messy job. You bet with CAPTCHA!

Although CAPTCHA is not invincible in filtering spam due to the advancement of some brute force and OCR hacks, it's definitely a good discriminator of behavior between human and machine.

Now the even better idea came by an assumption that people will help to digitise books:
